Colm is am electrician and usually his job keeps him close to home but for this week he will be in Huddersfield with some of his work mates.
So for the first time - ever - I am alone with the girls for 6 days...
I know I spend everyday with them but I am actually quite nervous about being alone with them. I have to say that I am the bossy parent while Colm is the good one. Sienna is a bit young but Mya knows that Daddy means fun - Mummy means business!!
Mya is five which means she will notice when he doesn't come home from work. I love her to death but she is quite a sensitive child and I can forsee her becoming very upset later on tonight when it comes time for bed as its Colms' turn to read the story.
It's not just Mya that will miss him. Colm and I have lived together for almost 5 years now and even before that the longest we have ever been away from each other is 4 days!! Sad I know but it's true.
We live out in the country and although my parents live right beside us, we live up our own driveway, surrounded by our own garden. My family live all around us scattered across my granda's land but it still looks a little creepy at night looking out at pitch black.
Colm left late last night to drive to Dublin to catch the ferry so this is my first day as the single parent and if I'm honest - it's not going too well. Silly little things have gone wrong and while usually I would just wait until Colm got home from work to help but since he won't be home until Saturday night - I have to do these alone.
Firstly I was getting Mya up for school this morning and being Monday we were running a little late as I tried to find a pen to write on her envelope with her school dinner money in it. Then we couldn't find one of her shoes - I told her on Friday that she had to put them in the wardrobe which she must have took to mean "throw one in the wardrobe and the other under the couch in the living room and we will have a scavenger hunt on Monday morning".
Next was the lights in the hallway. Both blew and usually we keep a few spare bulbs in the utility room but I think they were hiding on me today because I just couldn't find them.
Then there was the fire!! I can light a fire - I have done so nearly everyday this winter but for some reason today it wouldn't light!! I tried two or three times and nothing.
Silly little things like that have gone wrong and usually it wouldn't bother me but if the rest of the week is like this then I am in trouble.
Thankfully the girls have been good so far. Sienna has taken her bottles, had her nappies changed and went back to sleep without any problems. Mya came in from school had a snack and took a nap (which is how I found the time to write this).
I am now about to start homework with Mya, then give Sienna a bottle and then make dinner. Hopefully the rest of the day runs smoothly and then it's only 5 more sleeps until Colm is home!!!!
